What is the process for getting my child admitted to The Healing Lodge?

A completed intake packet including all required additional items (see packet checklist), needs to be submitted to the Admissions Department. Once your packet is received it will be screened to determined appropriate placement. Your packet is usually screened within 24 business hours.

The admissions department will contact you after the screening to let you know if the packet is approved, or whether or not more information is needed.

If the packet is complete and admission is approved, a bed date can usually be scheduled at that time. The approximate wait for bed availability varies.

Who can make use of the Healing Lodge Programs?

Male and female patients ages 13-17.

Is the Healing Lodge a lockdown program?

No, The Healing Lodge is a non-secure facility.
We are not an extension of the juvenile justice system.
We are not a jail facility.

What if my child won't sign the admission packet?

The Healing Lodge is a voluntary program and does not admit youth against their will.

How long will my child be at The Healing Lodge?

The length of stay is variable based upon clinical need. Your child's progress is reviewed weekly and transfer recommendations to an outpatient aftercare program in the childs community will be made once your child is stabilized and meets criteria for discharge. The average length of stay is 60-90 days.

What types of activities will my child be involved in while at The Healing Lodge?

A variety of treatment activities including: Individual and group chemical dependency counseling, mental health counseling, family counseling, cultural counseling and activities, academic education, support groups and recreational therapy.

What recreational activities are available at the Healing Lodge?

Who will pay for my child's treatment stay?

The Healing Lodge is funded by Indian Health Service. All enrolled members of federally recognized tribes and descendants of enrolled members of federally recognized tribes are eligible for funding. The Healing Lodge is also funded by Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse. Those who are on Washington State Medical coupons and/or those who meet the financial eligibility criteria are eligible for funding.

In addition some private insurance is accepted. Please contact the Admissions Department regarding private insurance.

My child is not attending school, do I still need to provide the consent found in the intake packet?

Yes, please provide information on the consent regarding the last school attended. This will allow our education department to coordinate the most effective academic services for you child.

What about schooling while in treatment?

The Healing Lodge complies with state requirements and regulations for patients. The Healing Lodge offers core curriculum subject matter to keep the residents current in their course of study, including:

  • GED Preparation and Counseling
  • Academic Credits
  • Career Exploration
  • Coffee House
  • Guest Speakers in Native American Studies
  • Native American Literature/Poetry
  • Native Pride Magazine
  • Native American Studies

What is the blank release found in the intake packet for?

The intake packet provides many releases, which are specific to certain providers/agencies.  The blank release is to be used for anyone other than those standard providers for which specific releases are already provided.

How is the Healing Lodge funded?

Through funds received from Indian Health Services, Washington State Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (DASA) and Private Insurance. We also are funded through grants from Center for SAMSHA/Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) for mental health and aftercare and from the Office of Juvenile Delinquency Prevention (OJDP).

Who governs the Healing Lodge?

The seven tribes east of the Cascade Mountains . They include:

  • Colville , Kalispel, and Spokane Tribes of Washington;
  • Nez Perce, Kootenai and Coeur d'Alene Tribes of Idaho; and
  • Umatilla Confederated Tribe of Oregon

How is my family involved in the treatment process?
